FAQ

WHAT IS VEGAN LEATHER AND SUEDE?

Vegan leather generally speaking is any material that is vegan (not from an animal) that resembles the look and feel of real leather. Vegan leather is currently made using a variety of natural and synthetic materials. We prefer to call our material vegan leather as some items labelled faux leather can still contain animal leather.

Our shoes are made with a combination of Microfibre leather, PU (Polyurethane), PU Imitation Microfibre Eco Leather and Microfibre Suede.

PU leather is Polyurethane coated onto a backing fabric and the one we use is considered Eco-leather. Read more here about why our PU is considered Eco and how the production of this strong faux-leather has eveolved.

Microfibre suede and leather is now considered the best alternative to real leather and it is strong, eco-friendly, breathable and hypo-allergenic plus it has a soft luxurious feel and wont rub your skin. All our shoes have a microfibre lining. Microfibre suede is also fast drying and anti-odour.

The rest of the shoe (the base) is a combination of rubber and wood. The heel of our boots are 100% wood and there is no plastic inside the heel.

WHY DO YOU NOT USE FRUIT LEATHER?

First of all, fruit leather such as apple and pineapple is not made of 100% fruit and can not be composted. They contain a large percentage of PU. Fruit takes a lot of water to grow and pesticides are used.

Secondly, Mindful Steps is a small label and the minimum order quantity and lack of leather look shades makes it impossible for us to use these fruit leathers.

There is one plastic free vegan leather on the market in 2023, called Mirum© and this is very exciting. One day we hope to use this material, when it is more readily available and comes in boho earthy tones.

WHAT ABOUT THE GLUE?

Our glue is synthetic - one is a poly chloroprene contact adhesive and the other one is a graft chloroprene rubber solvent-based adhesive.

WHAT CURRENCY IS USED ON YOUR STORE?

All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD).
